Lagos Court Jails Housewife for Drug Trafficking Offences
A Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced a housewife to 28 months imprisonment for possessing and dealing in illicit drugs
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Tuesday sentenced a 33-year-old housewife, Rukayat Sikiru, to 28 months imprisonment for dealing in illicit drugs.

The Lagos housewife drug conviction followed her arrest by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Black Gate area of Badore, Ajah, on March 12, 2026.
According to the prosecution team led by B.S. Abdullahi, M.I. Erondu and P.M. Ekuri, the convict was found in possession of several banned substances, including Cannabis Sativa, Methamphetamine, Molly, cocaine, Rophynol and Tramadol.
The prosecutors told the court that the offences contravened Section 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
When the six-count charge was read before the court, Rukayat pleaded guilty to all charges.
Following her plea, the prosecution reviewed the facts of the case and tendered six exhibits before the court.
Counsel to the convict appealed for leniency, telling the court that Rukayat is a single mother of four children who lives in an uncompleted building.
The defence further argued that the convict had shown remorse and pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.
In his ruling, Justice Akintayo Aluko said the court considered the plea for mercy before delivering judgment.
The judge subsequently sentenced the convict to a total of 28 months imprisonment with an option of N800,000 fine.

Justice Aluko also ordered that all illicit substances recovered from the convict be returned to the NDLEA for destruction.
Police dismiss officers Anthony Obodo case has been confirmed as the Rivers State Police Command dismissed three of its officers linked to the killing of a 22-year-old University of Port Harcourt graduate, Anthony Obodo.
The State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, disclosed this on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, while parading the three officers before journalists in Port Harcourt.
According to the command, the officers were linked to the incident that occurred last Thursday along Ada George in Port Harcourt, where Obodo was shot dead.
A member of the team, an inspector who fled after the shooting, has been declared a deserter.
CP Adepoju stated that the three arrested officers were subjected to an orderly room trial. Following the conclusion of the investigation and the establishment of their culpability, they have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and will be charged to court.
“I am here to provide updates on some serious incidents recently recorded in the state, including the investigation into the death of one Anthony A. Obodo… Following the conclusion of the investigation and the establishment of the culpability of the officers involved… the officers being paraded today have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and will be charged to court,” Adepoju said.
The commissioner noted that he understood the concerns of Obodo’s family and members of the public, adding that the Command has taken appropriate disciplinary action against the police personnel involved.
Obodo, a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt who was reportedly awaiting his NYSC call-up letter, was shot during a police pursuit.
