According to a statement from the Toronto Police Service, Ejerua was declared wanted in December 2025 following reports of assaults on residents during his employment from 1 to 30 November 2025.

The incidents reportedly prompted a police response on 10 December at approximately 9 a.m.

“During this period, the accused committed a series of assaults on the residents of the home,” the statement read.

Following a subsequent manhunt, Ejerua was apprehended and charged with seven counts of assault.

Ejerua was scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice, 10 Armoury Street, on 7 January 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in room 106.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about caregiver misconduct in facilities for vulnerable populations.

Authorities have stressed the importance of thorough vetting and monitoring of staff to protect residents.

This is not the first instance of Nigerians being arrested in Canada for serious offences.

A 28-year-old Nigerian, Babatunde Afuwape, was arrested in December 2025 in connection with the killing of 20-year-old university student Shivank Avasthi.
