Otunba Gbenga Daniel speech in Ikenne highlights SWDC law, development projects, empowerment initiatives, and plans for agriculture and aviation growth

he senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has emphasised a clear vision for development, empowerment, and progress in Ogun East during a speech he delivered at the BATOGD Movement Midterm Community Assessment in Ikenne on Sunday, 26 October 2025,

Otunba Daniel started his speech by paying tribute to Chief Obafemi Awolowo, describing him as a sage whose vision of self-reliant, educated, and prosperous communities continues to guide the Southwest.

He celebrated the signing into law of the Southwest Development Commission (SWDC) Bill, which he sponsored in the Senate, calling it a revival of Awolowo’s dream through legislation, vision, and action.

The former governor also announced the reactivation of a partnership with ZAMBEEF of Zambia for a livestock dairy farm, meat production, and leather processing.

Initially delayed by political challenges, the project is expected to create over 10,000 jobs and stimulate opportunities for small and medium-scale enterprises in the region.

Reflecting on past achievements, Daniel highlighted the Gateway International Airport in Remo, noting that development is a relay race.

He praised Governor Dapo Abiodun for continuing the work started during his administration, stressing that leadership is about passing the baton to ensure sustainable progress.

Daniel also outlined key constituency projects in Ikenne, including a completed solar-powered motorised borehole in Ogere, solar street lights in Ilishan, and an ongoing ultra-modern Skills Acquisition Centre in Irolu.

He urged that federal facilities, such as the Strategic Grain Reserve in Ikenne, should actively serve local communities, transforming infrastructure into engines for food security and job creation.

The senator framed the BATOGD Movement as an extension of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing action and tangible results.

Daniel highlighted the Aviation School Bill in Ilara, Remo North, which is at an advanced stage and will provide aviation training for youths, with benefits extending to Ikenne and beyond.

Concluding, the former governor stressed unity, local ownership of projects, and community participation as vital to sustaining development.

He encouraged residents to engage actively, protect initiatives, and leverage opportunities for agriculture, logistics, and business growth.
