Oyo Police vow to rescue two abducted women in Ilero and confirm arrests tied to recent murder and kidnapping in Kajola

Oyo police kidnap update has brought renewed hope to residents of Ilero in Kajola Local Government Area as the state’s police command has pledged to secure the release of two women abducted in the town last week.

The Commissioner of Police, Johnson Adenola, gave this assurance during a peace dialogue held on Monday with youth representatives and traditional leaders from Kajola and Iwajowa communities.

He confirmed that the command had made multiple arrests linked to recent security breaches, including the abduction and the killing of a farmer in a nearby farm settlement.

“We are working hard and hope that the two victims will regain their freedom soon,” Adenola said. “We have arrested some suspects, and we are getting close to the kidnappers.”

The two female victims were abducted on Wednesday at an agro-products store in Ilero while at work. The incident prompted local youths to consider staging a protest.

The police commissioner, however, urged restraint, warning that such demonstrations could be hijacked by criminal elements.

“Protests will not solve the problem,” Adenola advised. “The best way forward is to come together, share information, and help security agencies bring lasting peace to the area.”

We are working hard and hope that the two victims will regain their freedom soon. We have arrested some suspects, and we are getting close to the kidnappers.

He revealed that eleven suspects had so far been apprehended in connection with the incidents—seven for kidnapping and four for murder. He added that more arrests were expected as the investigation continued.

In response to the crisis, the command has deployed additional personnel from the Anti-Kidnapping and Monitoring Units to reinforce security in the region.

Adenola stressed the importance of synergy among police, local vigilantes, and other security outfits to ensure sustained peace in the zone.

Speaking at the meeting, the Elero of Ilero, Oba Wasiu Oyedele, condemned the recent violence and called on all residents, including non-indigenes, to maintain harmony. “We are accommodating, and we expect everyone to embrace peace,” the traditional ruler said.

In his remarks, the Seriki Fulani of the zone, Mr Muhamud Yusuf, claimed that most attacks were carried out by unknown herders and criminal outsiders.

He pledged the cooperation of herders and other migrant groups with the police and community security units.

The forum included fact-finding discussions with representatives of the Miyetti Allah group, farmers’ associations, and local leaders.

Members of the Amotekun Corps, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other security stakeholders also participated.
