SGF George Akume confirms his marriage to Zaynab Otiti Obanor, describing it as private with no effect on his public responsibilities

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has confirmed his marriage, describing it as a private personal decision unrelated to his public duties or political stance.

Sources close to the SGF revealed that the union with Her Highness Zaynab Otiti Obanor was quietly formalised some time ago and deliberately kept out of the public eye, reflecting Akume’s long-standing preference for discretion.

A senior aide emphasised that the SGF has consistently maintained a clear boundary between his personal life and public service.

“This principle remains unchanged,” the aide said, underscoring that governance remains Akume’s top priority.

Observers noted that Akume’s career, spanning his tenure as governor and his current role overseeing government coordination, has been marked by institutional continuity rather than public spectacle. Insiders said the marriage reflects the same measured, private disposition.

Zaynab Otiti Obanor is a philanthropist and international development advocate with a long history of involvement in charitable initiatives, community welfare projects, and leadership development programmes.

She maintains a low public profile, prioritising meaningful impact over visibility.

Those familiar with the couple added that both maintain independent professional identities, with no plans to link personal milestones to political positioning.

Aides reiterated that the SGF remains fully engaged in his constitutional responsibilities.
