Nigerian comedian and gospel minister Woli Agba has confirmed the death of gospel singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, prompting an outpouring of grief from colleagues, fans and members of the gospel music community.
Woli Agba paid tribute to the late singer in an emotional post on his verified Instagram page, @woliagba_ayoajewole, describing his passing as a painful loss.
Captioning the tribute “Sunset at Midday”, the entertainer reflected on the singer’s life, talent and the impact of his music, describing him as “a very unique voice”.
He wrote that “an angel just passed on”, adding that the singer had brought joy, touched souls and created lasting memories through his music.
Woli Agba lamented that the singer’s voice had gone silent too soon, expressing disbelief over the loss of an artiste whose career was still developing.
“Life can be so unpredictable; one moment, we are celebrating life, and the next, we are struggling to find the words to express our grief,” he wrote.
He added that the singer’s death had left a painful void that was difficult to understand and accept.
The comedian also prayed for God to comfort Toluwanisings’ family, friends, colleagues and fans, asking for strength for those struggling to come to terms with the loss.
Admitting that he could hardly believe he was writing the tribute, Woli Agba described life as “freaking fickle” before bidding the singer farewell with the words, “Sing with the Angels, Bro.”
The post attracted thousands of likes and comments shortly after it was published, with fans and fellow gospel ministers sharing messages of condolence.
The confirmation came after Woli Agba had earlier urged the public not to conclude that the singer had died when reports of his deteriorating condition began circulating on social media on Wednesday.
At the time, the entertainer asked people to remain hopeful, saying prayers were still ongoing for a miracle.
“Please hold on. Please don’t conclude. We are trusting God. Please,” he wrote in response to an earlier post about the singer.
Gospel singer Boyebest also expressed hope that the situation would change, reflecting the uncertainty surrounding the reports at the time.
Woli Agba’s subsequent tribute indicated that the earlier hopes had given way to grief.
The reports first gained wider attention after Pelumi Olajengbesi, convener of the Coalition of Public Interest Lawyers and Advocates (COPA), announced the singer’s death on Instagram on Wednesday.
Sharing Toluwanisings’ photograph, Olajengbesi expressed concern over the loss of young Nigerians and called for divine intervention.
“This is not God’s plan for us,” he wrote, adding, “We say no to untimely death.”
According to an earlier report by Leadership, initial accounts indicated that the singer had slumped in his apartment and was in critical condition.
However, the circumstances surrounding his death had not been officially disclosed in the reports available at the time. No statement from his family or management was cited.
Toluwanisings hailed from Ikirun in Osun State and had gained recognition in gospel music circles in recent years through his songs and live worship performances.
According to Leadership, he was also a trained estate surveyor and valuer.
One of his popular songs was “Kabiyesi Olorun Ayo”. He was known for his powerful vocals and his ability to lead worship sessions at church programmes and gospel events.
His music earned him a following among gospel music enthusiasts, making news of his passing a source of sadness for many who admired his talent.
Toluwanisings’ death comes about three months after he and members of his crew reportedly survived a road accident in July.
The singer had previously shared photographs of a damaged vehicle after a fully loaded trailer nearly crushed the crew’s bus as they returned from a church programme.
He expressed gratitude to God for preserving their lives following the incident.
There is, however, no confirmed information linking the earlier road accident to his death.
As tributes continue to emerge, fans and fellow gospel artistes are remembering Toluwanisings for his voice, worship ministry and contribution to Nigeria’s gospel music scene.
