Abdulaziz made the remarks during the National Joint Advisory Committee Meeting held at the TCN corporate headquarters, where representatives of both management and the union gathered to review key issues affecting operations and staff welfare.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from both sides as part of ongoing engagement efforts.

He noted that the continued mutual respect between TCN management and NUEE leadership has contributed significantly to industrial harmony within the organisation, even amid broader challenges confronting Nigeria’s electricity sector.

Abdulaziz reaffirmed management’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the union in order to support efficiency and improve service delivery.

According to him, prioritising staff welfare remains central to achieving operational stability and sustaining productivity across the company’s network.

He emphasised that collaboration between management and workers is critical to addressing sectoral constraints and ensuring the smooth transmission of electricity nationwide.

Speaking on behalf of the NUEE national executive, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, acknowledged improvements in staff welfare under the current management while urging further enhancements to align with prevailing economic realities.

Ajaero appealed for a more robust welfare package for workers, noting that such measures would help boost morale and support efficiency within the organisation.

He reiterated the union’s willingness to continue engaging constructively with management to advance shared objectives.

Discussions at the meeting also focused on broader operational issues affecting TCN, with both parties reviewing challenges and exploring practical solutions aimed at improving performance.

The dialogue was described as productive, with emphasis placed on sustaining engagement mechanisms that promote transparency and cooperation.

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to rehabilitating and repositioning Nigeria’s dormant national refineries, declaring that the facilities will not be allowed to become stranded assets.

Tinubu was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Patience Oyekunle, at the 20th OTL Africa Downstream Energy Week in Lagos on Monday.

The President said the government is adopting a more rigorous and commercially sustainable approach to the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna refineries.

“At the same time, the government remains committed to ensuring that existing national refining assets are not allowed to become stranded investments,” the statement said.

“We are pursuing a more rigorous, commercially sustainable approach to the rehabilitation and repositioning of our refineries, supported by technical assessment, stronger partnerships, and improved operational discipline.”

The objective, according to the administration, is for Nigeria to refine more of its crude oil, create greater domestic value and become a reliable supplier of energy to Africa.

The national refineries, managed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), have remained largely inactive for years despite significant spending on turnaround maintenance. The NNPC has signed a memorandum of understanding with Chinese firms as part of ongoing efforts to revive the facilities.

Tinubu also noted the contribution of private refining capacity, particularly the Dangote Refinery, which has reached its 650,000 barrels-per-day nameplate capacity, in strengthening Nigeria’s prospects of becoming a net exporter of refined petroleum products.
