President Bola Tinubu expresses condolences to Wilfred Ndidi on the tragic death of his father, Sunday Ndidi, in a road accident in Delta State

President Bola Tinubu has extended condolences to Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi following the death of his father, Sunday Ndidi, in a road accident in Umunede, near Agbor, Delta State, on Tuesday.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the death as tragic and expressed sympathy with Ndidi and his family.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of Sunday Ndidi. I share in the grief of his family, friends and associates, particularly Wilfred Ndidi, who shared a strong bond with his father as a mentor and guide in his remarkable career as an exceptional footballer,” the statement read.

President Tinubu noted that Sunday Ndidi’s modest beginnings and honesty inspired many who looked up to him.

He prayed that God would comfort the family and grant eternal rest to the deceased.

Leicester City, Ndidi’s club, also confirmed the incident, stating: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our footballer Wilfred Ndidi’s esteemed father, Sunday Ndidi, in a fatal traffic accident.”

Sunday Ndidi, a retired military officer, was confirmed dead after being rushed to a hospital in Agbor following the accident.
