Anambra State Police Command has detained a 46-year-old man, Rapuruchukwu Ezenandu, following allegations of prolonged incestuous abuse that resulted in his daughter contracting HIV.

Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed that the suspect was apprehended after the 20-year-old victim discovered her health status during a hospital visit on 23 April 2026.

Preliminary investigations suggest the abuse began when the victim was 17 years old, leading to a voluntary confessional statement from the suspect while in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department.

This specific case forms part of a broader series of Anambra Police arrests targeting those accused of heinous sexual and child abuse offences.

Alongside Rapuruchukwu Ezenandu, the authorities have processed four other individuals for various predatory crimes.

These include 26-year-old security guard Chukwuemeka Chidiebere, 36-year-old barber Uchenna Muojama, and 52-year-old Chukwudi Nwayata, all of whom face charges related to the rape or defilement of minors ranging from 11 to 16 years of age.

The police command also secured the arrest of Eucharia Ezenwanne, who is accused of inflicting severe physical injuries upon two young children she purportedly adopted.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga noted that the suspects would be arraigned today, 6 May 2026, before the Special Court sitting in Awka.

The rapid progression from arrest to court appearance highlights a determined effort by the Gender Unit to fast-track justice for victims of domestic and sexual violence.

Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu has condemned the actions of the accused, describing the trend of exploitation as a depraved violation of human dignity.

Commissioner Ikioye Orutugu assured the public that the command would remain vigilant in its duty to safeguard the vulnerable.

The official statement concluded by reaffirming that the Anambra Police arrests serve as a stern warning to offenders that the state will maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward child abuse and sexual misconduct.
