PDP Response to ADC Coalition

PDP response to ADC coalition calls it ill-fated. Damagum says defections pose no threat as members are already returning. PDP eyes 2027 comeback

PDP response to ADC coalition has drawn sharp lines in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape, with the Peoples Democratic Party declaring that the newly formed alliance poses no threat to its 2027 ambitions.

Speaking at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum dismissed the coalition that adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a platform for the 2027 general elections.

Damagum labeled the political formation a “so-called coalition”, suggesting that it was already unraveling, as several defected PDP members had returned.

“Many who jumped on the coalition bandwagon have already returned to our fold,” he said, calling the move a political experiment not worth losing sleep over.

He emphasized that the PDP remains the only nationally structured and credible alternative ready to reclaim power.

Echoing the sentiment, Gov. Bala Mohammed, Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, sympathized with those who left but hinted at a limited timeframe for their return. “We will not continue to condone indiscipline,” he warned.
